The Crisis in Funding

• Changes taking effect right now are threatening the future of our residency program.
  
  
• First, Medicare no longer funds our residents for their off-site rotations (including their visits to rural clinics).
  
  
• Second, the national organization that accredits residency programs is mandating paid time for faculty research, teaching and administration.
  
  
• WCGME is currently out of compliance with this new mandate and does not have the budget to compensate its faculty.
  
  
• The operating shortfall caused by these changes is projected to be $9.6 million in 2008 and $12.5 million in 2009.
