In-Service Training Examination
The In-Service training examination as required by the Residency Review Committee (RRC) is given to all residents once a year in January. A ABSITE review session is conducted the Sunday following the exam for all residents.
Oral Examinations
“Mock” oral examinations are given to the third, fourth, and fifth year residents in November of each year. This examination follows the format of the Certifying examination of the American Board of Surgery and prepares the residents for part 2 of the American Board of Surgery certification process.
Medical Students
Wichita is a clinical campus for the University of Kansas School of Medicine. Medical students are assigned to most of the General Surgery teaching services at Via Christi. The surgical resident is expected to participate in the education of medical students. Each year one resident is selected by the medical students to receive The Outstanding Resident Teacher award.
