The JayDoc Community Clinic is a student-run free clinic that operates in partnership with Guadalupe Clinic and the KU School of Medicine–Wichita. The clinic is open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The clinic is located at 940 S. St. Francis in Wichita, Kan.
JayDoc Community Clinic requires a minimum of 10 volunteers to operate each Saturday. The various volunteer roles are:
Vitals and Intake (4+):
This position is typically filled by a first-year medical student or pre-medical student. Responsibilities include checking in the patient, collecting vitals, and obtaining the chief complaint and history of the present illness.
Student Physician (4+):
This position is filled by upper-level medical students. Responsibilities include working with a vitals and intake volunteer to obtain a thorough history, performing the physical exam, consulting with the attending physician to determine a plan of care, and completing a SOAP note for each patient.
Attending Physician (1+):
This position is reserved for licensed physicians. All volunteer physicians must have an independent license or another physician must be present to countersign. Responsibilities include assisting medical students in developing a plan of care, ensuring quality health care is provided for all patients, and seeing all patients and signing all medical records. Volunteer physicians have malpractice benefits as “charitable health care providers” under Kansas tort laws for this activity.
Clinic Director (1):
One member of the Executive Board serves as clinic director each week. Responsibilities include ensuring that the clinic runs smoothly and answering all questions about clinic resources and operations.
Medical and pre-medical student volunteers are asked to arrive at the clinic no later than 8:40 a.m. Physicians are asked to arrive by 9 a.m. While we plan to finish seeing patients by 1 p.m., complicating factors occasionally prevent us from leaving on time.
We understand that your time is valuable, and we greatly appreciate the time that you dedicate to the clinic. We believe that this opportunity will not only enrich your medical education and practice, but leave a lasting impact on the Wichita community. Thank you!
