The Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine is staffed by Dr. Margaret O’Hara. She completed her residency at the University Of Kansas School Of Medicine - Wichita in Obstetrics and Gynecology and finished her fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York City in 1995.
Currently, the department has the largest Perinatal Service in the State of Kansas. The service accepts transported patients from the majority of the state of Kansas. Wesley Medical Center has a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with thirty-six beds.
In 2010, we are excited to welcome Dr. Darren M. Farley back to Wichita after his completion of his fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, TX.
Description of Resident Experience
A PGY-3 Obstetrics and Gynecology resident runs the service at all times. The resident works in close association with the staff and participate actively in the care and delivery of high-risk obstetrical patients. They receive a broad-based experience in the daily high-risk outpatient clinic, which includes a clinic that focuses on the diabetic Obstetric patient, fetal anomalies, genetic abnormalities. The resident performs procedures such as ultrasound, amniocentesis and color doppler vascular studies. The department also works with a pediatric cardiologist to perform fetal echocardiograms. Residents counsel women regarding nutrition, exercise, health maintenance, high-risk behaviors, and preparation for pregnancy and childbirth.
