The Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine is staffed by two perinatologists, Dr. Margaret O’Hara and Dr. James Pullano. Dr. O’Hara completed her residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine - Wichita in Obstetrics and Gynecology and finished her fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York City in 1995. Dr. James Pullano completed his residency at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, Virginia and finished he fellowship at University Hospital Newark, New Jersey. Currently, the Division has the largest Perinatal Service in the State of Kansas.
Description of Resident Experience: There are two to three third year Obstetrics and Gynecology residents on the service at all times. The residents work in close association with the staff and participate actively in the care and delivery of high- risk obstetrical patients. They receive a broad-based experience in the daily high-risk outpatient clinic, which includes a clinic that focuses on the diabetic Obstetric patient. As the perinatologists are active in the Kansas Regional Maternal Transport System, the residents gain experience in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of medical and obstetrical complications. The Division has established an obstetric ultrasound laboratory, featuring invasive perinatal procedures including percutaneous umbilical blood sampling, chorionic villus sampling, amniocentesis, and color doppler vascular studies. The Division also works with a pediatric cardiologist to perform fetal echocardiograms. |
