Subspecialists: Jed Delmore, M.D. and Douglas Horbelt, M.D. Board certified gynecologic oncologists trained at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Services:
Description of Resident Experience: Upper level resident physicians in Ob/Gyn spend 2-3 contiguous months on the oncology service. New patient evaluation, preoperative assessment, and follow-up visits are accomplished in the clinic. The resident is first assistant on all oncology procedures. A comprehensive review of evaluation and treatment of the oncology patient is the goal. Critical care of the postoperative patient, including blood component therapy, pain management, as well as rehabilitation, are emphasized. Special Characteristics: A multimodal approach to care of the oncology patient in a collaborative practice setting is unique. The upper level resident is an integral part of the oncology team, which includes nurses, social worker, dietitian, enterostomal therapist, consulting specialists, and gynecologic oncologists. |
