What is the S:\ drive and why use it

S: drive is the “Shared” network drive

  • Each department has a directory that can only be accessed by department personnel
  • The personal folder is within the departmental structure. Only the employee and
their supervisor can see the personal folder
  • Files stored on the S: drive are backed up every night
  • S:\Everyone is a temporary location for exchanging files with those in other departments. All who have a network account have access to S:\Everyone. Sensitive information should never be stored in this folder. Files stored on S:\Everyone are deleted every week.
  • Employees are discouraged from storing files on their local hard drive. If they do, they are personally responsible to back them up
