WICHITA, KAN. - The March of Dimes Greater Kansas Chapter will expand the Healthy Babies are Worth the Wait program to Sedgwick County, thanks to a $10,000 grant from the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation.

Dr. Cari Schmidt, KU Wichita Pediatrics, will lead the implementation of the program across five proposed sites in Sedgwick County. The program, titled Baby Talk, will serve approximately 375 women who are at risk for poor birth outcomes.

Goals of the program are to provide early access to care, lower rates of preterm birth, increased birth weights, and reduced rates of infant mortality.

The University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita educates doctors for Kansas while improving the health of Kansans through research and innovation.
