Management of Chronic and Acute Illnesses
It is advisable if you wish to have your care done through student health services to have an initial visit at the beginning of each academic year to initiate and update your medical records.
Travel Visits for Students Going Overseas
Consultation includes health advice for countries on student itinerary, travel immunizations and prescriptions for travel-related medications such as anti-malarial drugs.
Annual Physical Exams, Contraception and Well Man and Woman Exams
Screening and Treatment for Sexually Transmitted Disease
Care will be handled quickly and discretely.
Flu shots are administered through Via Christi and Wesley for students. Students will receive information through email.
Yearly TB tests are offered at no cost to students.
Stress Management and Personal Counseling Support
Janet Cox is our provider of personal counseling services.
Her specialties as a marriage and family therapist means she is a systems thinker (family of origin, school system, workplace system, etc.) and works to find how these systems influence thinking and behavior. Her skills also include working with people with addictions or compulsive behaviors. As a seasoned clinician, she has worked with a variety of presenting problems an individual may face including stress, work (school) life balance, anxiety, relationships, etc.

You may also speak with a psychologist by phone or online via video consultation at KUMC Counseling & Educational Support Services (Kansas City). These psychologists work exclusively with medical students, residents and health science students. The video consultations are encrypted, private, and internet-based (meaning you may have the consultation from your home). If you are in Kansas City, you may also meet with a psychologist on-site (G116 Student Center). The services are provided confidentially and at no additional cost. Telemental Health Service Disclaimer - We appreciate the opportunity to work with students and residents who are unable to meet face to face onsite for some psychological services. However, the initial meeting must be face to face, on-site either with Janet Cox in Wichita or with a provider at KUMC-Kansas City campus Counseling & Educational Support Services. At the initial appointment, the provider will determine the appropriateness of video or telephone consultations for future sessions. Please know that telemental health services have limitations and are not appropriate to resolve all psychological concerns. If telemental health services are determined not to be appropriate, referrals to community resources will be provided.
Order laboratory and radiology tests when indicated.
Provide laboratory services by appointment. Offer reduced fees on certain lab procedures including titers for immunizations.
Make referrals to specialists and personal counseling services when indicated.
Provide lab services to students who have a blood borne pathogen exposure while functioning in the student role.
Provide annual PPD tests for all students.
Educate students on health promotion and prevention.
