Circulation

Circulation Services are available to help users with procedures related to checking out and returning material. In addition, Circulation is responsible for shelving, locating missing material, recalling, renewing and registration.

Registration

The University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita students, residents, faculty and staff may register for library privileges at the circulation desk

Study Rooms

Three study rooms are available for individual or group study. Equipment is available for viewing slides, DVDs, and videos. Study areas and study tables are available throughout the library on the first and lower levels.

Newspapers

The Wichita Eagle and The Wall Street Journal are located in the main reading area of the library. Newspapers are retained in the library for one week following the publication date.

Photocopier

A photocopier is located in the lower level of the library. Patrons may use coins, department code or student ID number to operate the photocopier. Copies are $0.10 per page when operated by coin. Change is available on a limited basis from the library circulation desk. A change machine is also available in the school lunch room.

House Phone

A courtesy phone is available in the computer lab area, directly behind the printer. The phone is available for local calls. A second courtesy phone is available on the lower level.

Policies

Borrowing

Farha Medical Library material may be brought to the circulation desk staff for check out. Borrowing privileges are extended to the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita students, residents, faculty and staff.

Borrowing materials from the Library is a privilege, not a right. You must be in good standing with the Library and not have any overdue items or outstanding fines/charges in order to continue borrowing.

Renewals

Library material may be renewed at the discretion of the Farha Medical Library staff. Renew items before date due. Library items may be renewed one time.

Please send patron's name and the bar-code of the item with the renewal request. E-mail renewal requests to sclark3@kumc.edu or call 293-2629.

Donations and Gifts

The George J. Farha Medical Library gratefully accepts donations of materials that support the mission of the University. Gifts will be included in the collection at the discretion of the Assistant Director of the Library. All gifts become the property of the Library. Please call ahead regarding possible donations to the library. Upon receipt of the donation, all gifts will be acknowledged with a letter of thanks.

Whom does the library serve?

Our primary patrons are University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita medical students, residents, faculty and staff. In addition, we assist the public with medical information.

Is the library open to the public?

Yes, the Farha Medical Library is open to the public with limited use.

What services are available to the public?

May I check out material?

Check-out privileges are available to registered University of Kansas School of Medicine medical students, residents, faculty, staff and patrons with paid registration.

If the Main Catalog lists a book as “Discharged”, “Lost” or “Missing” How can I get a copy?

You may request to borrow a copy from another library through our Interlibrary loan department. (attach form)

Do I have to bring my books to the library to have them renewed?

No, You may call the circulation desk at 293-2629 or e-mail sclark3@kumc.edu to renew your material. If your in the library and without your books, you can stop by the desk and just ask the books be renewed.

I need a book that is checked out, can the library hold that book for me when it is returned?

Yes, Circulation can place a hold on the material. This will also stop any renewals from being granted on the material if the patron should ask. Circulation staff will then notify you when the material is returned.

May I make photocopies? Where is the photocopier? What is the cost?

Yes, a photocopier is available on the lower level at the cost of $0.10 per page. Medical students, please ask library staff for special assistance.

Is the Library closed on Holidays?

The Medical School is closed on holidays, however the library can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week for KUSM-W affiliates. See Circulation desk for any questions.
