3. Who can use the library services?
Our primary patrons are University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita medical students, MPH students, residents, faculty and staff. In addition, we assist the public with medical information.
4. May I check out material?
Checkout privileges are available to registered University of Kansas School of Medicine medical students, MPH students, residents, faculty, staff and patrons with paid registration
5. May I make photocopies? Where is the photocopier? What is the cost?
The photocopier is available on the lower level at the cost of $0.10 per page. Medical students, please ask library staff for special assistance.
6. How can I find out if the Library has access to a book or journal?
Our online library catalog http://catalog.library.kumc.edu/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?DB=local&PAGE=First gives the location of materials and holdings owned by all of the KU Medical Libraries. The online catalog also provides links to electronic resources.
7. How do I find a book or journal that the library does not have?
Our interlibrary loan staff may assist you in locating library items. You may call 316-293-2629 or E-mail libraryloans@kumc.edu.
8. Visitor Information – services to the public?
The George J. Farha Medical Library is geared for medical students, MPH students, residents, faculty and staff affiliated with the University of Kansas School of Medicine – Wichita. We are not a typical public library, but rather a clinical medical library. The public may ask for our assistance and use books and journals in the library. Photocopies are 10 cents per page. 9. Does the Library accept donations of used books and materials?
The George J. Farha Medical Library gratefully accepts donations of materials that support the mission of the University. Gifts will be included in the collection at the discretion of the Assistant Director of the Library. All gifts become the property of the Library. Please call ahead regarding possible donations to the library. Upon receipt of the donation, all gifts will be acknowledged with a letter of thanks.
10. How do I sign up for MDConsult service?
MDConsult is available to current University of Kansas School of Medicine – Wichita medical students, MPH students, residents, faculty and staff. Please see the Library Assistant Director or call 316-293-3437 for MDConsult service.
11. How do I sign up for UpToDate?
UpToDate is available to current University of Kansas School of Medicine – Wichita medical students, residents, faculty and staff. UpToDate is available from the Farha Medical Library web page.
UpToDate is available while on our campus or through our dial-up or VPN service. For further information call the library at 316-293-3437.
12. How can I access library electronic resources off campus?
There are three options for accessing subscription based electronic resources while off campus: Dial-in, VPN or Proxy server. The resources are available only to current University of Kansas School of Medicine – Wichita medical students, residents, faculty and staff. Call the library for more information regarding means of access, 316-293-3437.
13. What databases are available online?
Farha Medical Library provides access to a number of databases on the web.
