| Welcome to the University of Kansas
School of Medicine-Wichita
As part of the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita’s mission to improve the health of Kansans and to provide a healthy, safe environment, the medical school became a tobacco free campus on Nov. 16, 2006. KUSM-W strives daily to improve the health of our employees, our community and our state. As
you browse through our Web site, I hope you will feel the pride
we take in our mission to improve health and quality of life through
excellence in education, research and patient care.
The KU School of Medicine-Wichita has established itself as a model
for community-oriented education offering our students and residents
a wide range of clinical experiences vital in today’s medical
education. We strive to be the premier community-oriented medical
school in the country and revolutionize medical education.
KUSM-W plays a central role in educating young physicians
at local medical facilities rather than a university hospital.
Students
and residents have the opportunity to work alongside more than
900 volunteer faculty physicians who lend their skills to the
education of our students while serving the public health needs
of Kansans. Through our residency programs, the majority of
the un/underinsured in Wichita receive care. Our contributions
to our community
are many.
This unique environment and our association with the medical
community benefits students, physicians, patients and the
greater Wichita
community. My goal is that the KU School of Medicine-Wichita,
through our presence in the community, our partnerships throughout
Kansas,
and our public health initiatives, will have far-reaching
and great impact on our quality of life, now and in the future.
