Message from the Chair
The KUMC-Wichita Department of Internal Medicine is fortunate to have two large community based hospitals, Wesley Medical Center and Via Christi Regional Medical Center, and the Robert J. Dole VA Medical and Regional Office Center to support our teaching missions as our teaching partners. Reflecting the entrepreneurial spirit of Wichita, the department has forged unique relationships with community sub-specialty groups to enhance our teaching programs. Through these relationships and coupled with our outstanding full-time faculty, we are able to provide high quality "hands-on" clinical training for both medical students and resident physicians. It is my expectation that our residency training program provides the requisite skills to excel as either a primary care physician or as a strong foundation for sub-specialty fellowship training. The department is in the process of enhancing its research curriculum and research opportunities for those resident physicians wishing to pursue an academic general internist (or med/peds) career or who are planning to pursue sub-specialty training.
As Chairman, I maintain an open door policy for faculty, resident physicians, and medical students and I truly desire that your learning experience is not only excellent but enjoyable. As I have spent much of my career as an educator and educational administrator, I value medical education as our department's core mission. The stability of faculty and our caring community provide the opportunity to achieve educational excellence. I hope you will consider our vibrant medical community as both a site for your residency training and your medical practice.
