Summer Research Seminar

The Summer Research Seminar is designed for students, residents, faculty, and other individuals in health-related fields with an interest in improving their knowledge and skills in research. Participation in this course should enable individuals to develop a research project including literature search, design, statistical analysis, use of human subjects, and publishing and presenting results. A project will be presented step-by-step along with each topic.

At the conclusion of these workshops, participants should be able to:

• State the steps required to plan and implement a research project
• Identify available library resources and understand the principles of performing a PubMed search
• Review and critically evaluate scientific literature related to initiating a research project
• Recognize strategies for effective design of biomedical research
• Understand the issues that have brought us to the current climate of research oversight, and the regulations and responsibilities pertaining to both the IRB/HSC and the research team (including PI)
• Know the fundamentals of biostatistical analysis of biomedical data
•  List steps in the process of presentation and publication of scientific data
