The KU School of Medicine-Wichita General Surgery Residency program accepts six PGY-1 categorical residents each year. There are currently a total of 30 residents in this columnar program, six in each PGY level. We accept applications only via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) from the Association of American Medical Colleges.
Application deadline is November 1, 2019. However, we will be reviewing applications and begin scheduling interviews as early as October 1.
Applications must contain the following in order to be considered:
Interviews will be scheduled during November and December by invitation only.
Applicants must have graduated from medical school since 2014. Applicants must also have prior clinical practice in the U.S. as a student, resident, or M.D. after December 2014.
Interviews are on Wednesdays. There is a casual social function for applicants and spouses/significant others on Tuesday evening prior to interviews. This gives applicants a chance to meet our residents in an informal setting. The interview day begins at 7 a.m. and concludes at approximately 3 p.m. The day consists of hospital tours, attendance at Surgery Grand Rounds Conference, Surgery Morbidity & Mortality Conference, a meeting with the program director, multiple interviews, and lunch.
Interviews are scheduled by invitation only.
