"Recent Works," a collection of 15 mixed media and acrylic pieces
by Paul Zehr, will be on display Dec. 5, 2003 - Jan. 30, 2004, in the William
J. Reals Gallery of Art-East at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita
(KUSM-W). A public reception is scheduled, 2:30-3:15 p.m., Friday, Dec.
5, in the gallery area. The works, according to the artist, are "environmental exercises in the arrangement of the space, pattern and color of map and aerial landscape imagery, reflecting diversity ranging from growing up an Illinois Mennonite farm boy who spent spare time creating and drawing imaginary worlds, cities and maps, to living and studying in cities in the United States, Central America and Europe, and to teaching art and English in a remote bush village in Zaire, Africa." In "Recent Works," Zehr incorporates traditional painting and drawing media with imagery resulting from exploration in the use of the computer as a tool to manipulate and refine scanned paintings, drawings, objects and photographs. |
