“North,
South and East,” an exhibit of watercolors, oil paintings
and photographs by Duane West, will be on display Aug. 23-Sept.
27, in the William J. Reals Gallery of Art-East at the University
of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita. A public reception honoring
the artist is 2:30 – 3:15 p.m., Friday, Aug. 23, in the
gallery area.
A
lifelong resident of western Kansas, West has been interested
in art most of his life. Holder of a Juris Doctorate degree from
Washburn University School of Law, Topeka, Kan., he has practiced
law in Garden City, Kan., for more than 47 years. As Finney County
Attorney, he served as chief prosecutor for the Clutter murder
trial, later made famous by Truman Capote’s book, In Cold
Blood.
West’s formal training in art came in several courses at
Garden City Community College and numerous workshops in various
media. In 1997, he was admitted as a Signature Member of the Kansas
Watercolor Society.
The
exhibition, which is free and open to the public, is available
during regular gallery hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through
Friday. The building is closed to the public Saturdays and Sundays.
