In the mid-1980's at the urging of the Wichita Center for the
Arts,
Kansas artists created The Kansas Academy of Oil Painters (KAOP),
an
organization to promote oil painting, both for the artists and
the
viewer/collector.
Friday, Apr. 4, from 2 p.m. - 2:45 p.m., the KU School
of
Medicine - Wichita will host a public reception for the opening
of the
Kansas Academy of Oil Painters 2003 exhibit.
The group began with 52 members who had been accepted into the Small
Oil Competition for three years. New members may be accepted by
completing that requirement or by submitting 10 slides or photographs of
current work to the Board of Directors of the Kansas Academy of Oil
Painters. Membership is not limited to Kansans and includes artists
from New York to California.
