“Unique Creative Visions: The Art of Jessie Montes” Jessie Montes On display Oct. 4 - Nov. 8 Gallery East
“Unique Creative Visions: The Art of Jessie Montes” will be on display Oct. 4 – Nov. 8, in the William J. Reals Gallery of Art-East at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita. A public reception honoring the artist is 2:30 – 3:15 p.m., Friday, Oct. 4, in the gallery area. Twenty-four pieces crafted from corrugated paperboard with acrylic make up the exhibit. Inspiration comes from different sources, including photographs, real life experiences and the artist’s imagination. Montes uses mostly discarded cardboard, as recycling of materials is especially important to him. He cuts the cardboard into quarter-inch strips at a right angle to the corrugations. Then he glues the strips on to a base to make the patterns, designs and contours of the pieces. So far as is known, no other artist is using this medium and technique. The exhibition, which is free and open to the public, is available during regular gallery hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The building is closed to the public Saturdays and Sundays.
