“MIXED MEDIUMS ON GLASS,” an exhibit by Jaime Mendoza, will be presented March 30 – May 25, 2007, in the William J. Reals Gallery of Art-East, KUSM-W, 1010 N. Kansas. The exhibition will consist of paintings on glass. There will be a public reception in the gallery area, 2:30-3:15 p.m., Friday, Mendoza, is a local artist recovering from severe and persistent mental illness. He began painting while attending the day treatment program at the Wichita Veteran’s Administration where he received encouragement from the V.A. staff and his wife, who passed away several months ago. “Painting has been my best therapy to help cope with her loss. Each day I continue to get better, and painting allows me to take my mind off the pain of her loss,” said Mendoza. He considers glass his favorite canvas and prefers to paint on both sides to give a more dramatic effect to his paintings. The University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita is nationally recognized as a pioneer in community-oriented medical education. Since the first class graduated in 1975, 1,458 physicians have earned medical degrees. About half of these eventually established practices in the state, fulfilling KUSM-W’s promise of “Educating Doctors For Kansas.”
