"Wasted People" "Wasted People," an exhibition of 10 oils and acrylics by Gene Marsh, MD, will be displayed in the William J. Reals Gallery of Art - East at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita, April 7 - July 28. A public reception will be 2:30 - 3:15 p.m., Friday, April 7, in the gallery area. According to the artist, “This group of paintings is assembled as a protest against the tragic loss of human potential that results when human beings are incarcerated, abused, tortured or killed for political, religious or ideological ends.” Marsh is a surgeon who practices as an emergency physician for Emergency Services of Kansas. A 1973 graduate of the University of Kansas School of Medicine, he later earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting from Wichita State University in 1990. His works may be found in collections throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. From his studio in Halstead, Kan., Marsh has mounted shows throughout the Wichita/central Kansas area, including Hutchinson, Newton, El Dorado and Lawrence, as well as in Oregon and New Mexico. He has also given private lessons in art and painted scenery for high school productions. The exhibition, which is free and open to the public, is available during regular gallery hours, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The building is closed to the public Saturdays and Sundays. The University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita is nationally recognized as a pioneer in community-oriented medical education. Since the first class graduated in 1975, 1,398 physicians have earned medical degrees. About half of these eventually established practices in the state, fulfilling KUSM-W’s promise of “Educating Doctors For Kansas.” |
