A public reception for “Destinations,” an exhibit by Jan Vavra, will be held from 2:30-3:15 p.m., Friday, April 3, in the main lobby of the KU School of Medicine-Wichita, 1010 N. Kansas. The exhibit, which runs from April 3-May 29, consists of 13 watercolor and oil paintings and is free and open to the public from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday, in the William J. Reals Gallery of Art-East.

The artist produces high-energy water colors as well as subdued still life paintings. She continues to be involved in decorative painting, which includes working with a team of artists involved in stenciling, gilding and painting faux marble during the historic renovation of St. Anthony’s church in Wichita.

The University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita is nationally recognized as a pioneer in community-oriented medical education. Since the first class graduated in 1975, 1,553 physicians have earned medical degrees. Nationally, only about 29% of physicians in a state graduated from a medical school in the same state. While about half of Wichita’s graduates establish their practice in Kansas, fulfilling the school’s promise of “Educating Doctors for Kansas.”

There will be a public reception on Wednesday, May 6 at 2:30 p.m. in the west atrium.

The exhibit will consist of 10 paintings. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
