FMIG 2011-2012 Schedule of Events

The Family Medicine Interest Group is an on-campus organization comprised of students interested in a career in the specialty of family medicine. The Kansas Academy of Family Physicians provides some financial support.

The goals of FMIG are:
  1. To promote interest in the specialty of family medicine.
  2. To provide exposure to the three family medicine residencies:
    Via Christi
    Wesley
    Smoky Hill - Salina
  3. To provide educational and social events related to the above.
FMIG provides practical information about the specialty of family medicine to other students; encourages students with an interest in the specialty to learn more about it and provides opportunities for students to come together in a casual environment for social and learning experiences.

For the past ten years, FMIG has hosted a Doc for a Day workshop, for high school students from Wichita and the surrounding area who are interested in a career in medicine. Activities include a procedure workshop, introduction to obstetrics, discussion of careers in the medical field and tips for getting into medical school. Refreshments will be provided and each participant will receive a t-shirt with registration.
