Facilities Policies - Surplus

The Facilities Management Department manages and controls the surplus room at KUSM-W. The primary purpose of this room is to provide a location for departments to take office furniture that is no longer needed. Most of the items in the surplus room consist of used desks, chairs, tables, and modular furniture. The surplus room is not a storage area for departments. Any items being placed in the surplus room or being removed from the surplus room must be authorized by Facilities Management personnel.

Once an item is placed in the surplus room it is deemed "fair game" and is available for any department to use. A form is provided by the Facilities Management department in which individuals can fill out and reserve a piece of furniture from the surplus room for a maximum of 30 days. One copy of this form is kept in the Facilities Management Department, and one copy is taped on the item that the individual wishes to reserve. If after the 30-day deadline, the item is not picked up, the item once again becomes "fair game" and can be used by any other department.
