Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   Why do we have to pay for parking?

A:   The State budget does not provide funds for the support of Parking Services, therefore it must be self-supporting. Parking fees and ticket revenues pay for ongoing maintenance and improvement of our parking.

Q:   Can I tape my parking permit to the inside of my window?

A:   No, the permit shall be valid only when permanently attached to a vehicle registered with Facilities Management and in the manner specified on the sticker or by Facilities Management. View Example

Q:   If I lose my permit or it comes off at that car wash, will the University replace it?

A:   The University is not responsible for lost permits. You must bring a written statement to Facilities Management to replace a lost permit at the cost of $1.00. Mutilated permits can be brought to the Facilities Management department and replaced for $1.00.

Q:   What do I do with my parking permit if I sell my car?

A:   Prior to selling or trading a vehicle, all University of Kansas stickers shall be removed.   Persons who have purchased a parking permit for a vehicle shall receive a permit for a replacement vehicle if identifiable remains of the original permit are presented to Facilities Management. Persons unable to comply with this requirement must submit a statement that the original permit has been destroyed. The charge for a replacement permit is $1.00.

Q:   Do part-time employees need parking permits?

A:   All employees who park at the school on a routine basis will need a parking permit if they intend to use employee/staff parking.

Q:   Can new employees get a courtesy permit until they make up their mind if they want to purchase a KUSM-W parking permit?

A:   A new employee may receive a courtesy parking permit for 30 days when accompanied by a supervisor.

A:   Parking in lots without a permit is authorized from 4 pm - 7 am, Monday through Friday, weekends and holidays.

Q:   What if I disagree with a parking ticket?   Do I have any recourse?

A:   An appeal may be made at the Facilities Management office, or by completing the online parking violation appeal form no later than 4:00 pm on the 14th calendar day after the violation notice was issued. After 14 days, an appeal may be made only if payment for the violation is included with the appeal form. No appeal may be made after 60 days from the date of the violation notice.

Q:   If my employment at KUSM-W ends, can I be reimbursed for my parking permit?

A:   The refund will be the original fee paid, less $5, less the prorated annual fee for each month the permit has been used. A refund will be paid only upon presentation of the permit or a written statement stating the permit has been removed or destroyed.

Q:   If I have an orange parking permit, is there anywhere else I can park?

A:   No, those employees who have orange parking permits can only park in the orange lot. However, employees with tan stickers can park in any of the Tan lots or the Orange lot.
