Energy costs are like to strain state facilities' operating budgets this winter. The price of natural gas is reaching historic levels. Additionally, natural gas costs are expected to remain at high levels for the next couple of years. These high prices provide new incentives to refocus attention on ways KUSM-W can reduce natural gas costs.

Effective March 1, 2001, thermostats affecting business offices and public areas at the school will be set to the following temperatures to conserve energy:

Winter: 70 degrees (daytime)
60 degrees (nights/weekends/holidays)
Summer: 75 degrees (daytime)
85 degree (nights/weekends/holidays)

For personal comfort, the use of electric fans or space heaters are permitted as long as they are energy efficient and pass fire and safety inspection.

For questions or concerns on the energy conservation policy, contact Jan Arbuckle, Associate Dean for Administration at jarbuckle@kumc.edu.
