Application Process

 

Residency Application Information (2008-2009)

The Anesthesiology Residency Program at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita will accept applications only via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) from the Association of American Medical College (AAMC).

The KU School of Medicine-Wichita is a participant in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). ERA's application materials are distributed, each year, from the Dean's office of participating medical schools after June 30. Application materials include two software program diskettes, one student data diskette, and an instruction manual.

Our program is a four year program beginning at the PGY-1 level therefore, applicants should be only for entry at the PGY-1 level.

Application materials must be received by November 15, 2008.

Application Process and Criteria

The following criteria are required as a minimum for consideration for residency appointment:

  1. Three reference letters from U.S. physicians, preferably from anesthesiology chair or faculty. This physician must attest to cognitive ability, judgmental skills, and interpersonal relationship skills. These letters must be on appropriate letterhead.
  2. Transcript of medical school record, certified by the medical school.
  3. Official Dean's letter.
  4. Copy of USMLE Scores Part 1 minimum 200, Part 2 minimum 200.
  5. Curriculum Vitae and Personal Statement.
  6. Computer Literacy- please include your e-mail address on your application.
  7. The program director has the ultimate decision to waive any of these criteria

Graduates from medical schools outside the United States must achieve acceptable scores in both English and medical portions of the FMGEMS examination. All applicants must be completely fluent in written and spoken English.

Additional criteria for applicants required from medical schools outside the United States:

  1. Must be a United States Citizen or permanent Resident.
  2. Copy of Clinical Assessment Exam.
  3. Copy of Green Card/working permit (we do not sponsor any Visa's).
  4. Copy valid ECFMG Certificate.
  5. Must have practiced as an M.D. in a clinical practice, internship or residency after 2006. Candidates with significant anesthesia experience or rotations are preferred. Observerships are not considered practice experience.

Your Application must be complete and must meet KU criteria, or it will not be reviewed.

 
Interview Process

Residents selected for interviews will be notified by mail or e-mail and instructed to CALL for an appointment.

Interview Expenses
  1. The Anesthesiology Residency Program will provide one night's lodging for applicants invited to interview.
  2. Interviewees are strongly encouraged to attend the Friday Evening Social (6:30- 8:30 p.m.) the night before their interview (note the time change for Dec. 12th 7:15 - 9:15 p.m.)
  3. Interviews will be on Saturdays beginning at approximately 8:00 a.m. and concluding around 2:30 p.m.

Saturday Interview Dates:

  • November 8, 2008 (Social November 7th)
  • December 13, 2008 (Social December 12th)
  • January 17, 2009 (Social January 16th)
