Campus Map | Inclement Weather Procedures | Parking | Security | Campus Security and Clery Act
Although the Wichita Campus does not close for inclement weather very often, it's always important for students to know the policy as far as rotations are concerned.
Even if the medical school is closed, students are not necessarily excused from their clinical responsibilities. Each clerkship director will make the decision whether to require students to attend teaching rounds and other clinical responsibilities.
A policy is in place for the clerkship coordinators to contact ASA if all clinical obligations for a rotation are canceled due to inclement weather. The appropriate students will be paged. The bottom line is - if a student does not get a page, he or she will be required to participate in all clinical responsibilities for the day. If a student feels he or she cannot work, he or she is required to call his attending about an anticipated absence.
If you have any questions, please contact ASA at 293-2603.

The safety and security of the students on the Wichita Campus is of the utmost importance to the security staff. Security officers generally are on duty on campus from 6 a.m. to 12:30 a.m., Monday through Friday.
When the Wichita Campus is closed to the general public, it is protected with access control and alarm systems at all times. Student access cards allow access to the campus 24/7 through the Main entrance (by the flag pole), the West Atrium entrance on the far west side of campus as well as the Student Center entrance. A good practice to remember is to leave through the same door you entered through. For your safety, please do not prop open any doors or open any doors to allow access for any person you do not personally know.
Any criminal activity observed or suspected on campus or immediately surrounding the Wichita Campus should be reported to security at 293-2662 (or 3-2663 from any campus phone). The on-duty security officer also can be reached on the security cell phone at 648-8329.
Lost and found property can be turned in to or reclaimed at the security office located in the lobby by the Midtown clinic on the east end of the Wichita Campus.
For more information, visit the facilities website. If you have any questions or concerns about safety or security issues, please contact John Coates at 293-3409 or jcoates@kumc.edu.
The University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita, through the campus security office of the Facilities Management Department, makes several safety and security reports available to its community and to prospective students and employees. These reports provide important information, including several items for which federal law requires disclosure. The "Campus Security Report" is published annually and contains the following information.
While the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita strives to provide a safe environment, criminal incidents and other emergencies do occur despite reasonable efforts.
It is crucial that you report criminal incidents affecting personal safety, state property, and business to the campus security officers on a timely basis. If you are the victim of any crime or witness a crime, call the security office at (316) 648-8329 from any phone. If using a campus phone, you must first dial "9" for an outside line. If the call is a life threatening emergency call 9-9-1-1 to reach police assistance and/or emergency responders.
The campus security officers depend on these reports to allocate its resources most effectively. Therefore, to maximize crime prevention efforts and facilitate the arrest and conviction of criminals, all crime must be promptly reported to the security office. This information goes into monthly and annual reports. Information from these reports as well as from the Wichita Police Department is used by the Campus Security Section to prepare the "Campus Security Report" to comply with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crimes Statistics Act.
Each year, an announcement is made to all employees, faculty, and students providing the website to access this report.
